Juan Medina
Flamenco guitar, jazz, and roots music.
La Línea de la Concepción, 1982 · Formerly known as Juanito Makandé

I am Juan Medina, guitarist and composer, born in La Línea de la Concepción in 1982. For twenty years I was known as Juanito Makandé. In 2022 I closed that chapter to return to flamenco guitar. 'Fugaz' (Satélite K, 2025) is my first album on this path.
I grew up with flamenco at home, in La Línea de la Concepción. The epiphany came at eleven, in my father's car, listening to Camarón. I found a guitar and never put it down.
For twenty-one years I toured under another name, until in 2022 I closed that chapter at the Plaza de España in Seville, in front of twelve thousand people. A farewell at the peak, and a decision made in full.
The reunion with the guitar was accidental: a falseta that came out on its own, while I was in Norway. Since then, daily study and steady work. Today I move between flamenco, jazz, and roots music without settling fully into any of them, playing a flamenco venue one night and a jazz festival the next.
I produce from La Luciérnaga, my studio in Mallorca. In 2026 I am preparing a new album.
